Pupil Harry Cordeaux tells us of his first experience of attending an EKST event:
On the 12thNovember, me and 12 other Shells ( year 9s) travelled to the Pines Calyx near Dover to take part in the East Kent Schools Together’s first ever Big Explore. We were split into four teams, together with students from St. Anselm’s School and St. Edmund’s.
Each of the four teams took part in a series of activities such as: capture the flag, a command task involving the movement of numbered tyres, den building and fire lighting using a flint and steel. Each team contained people from all the three schools which meant it was a good chance to meet others from different backgrounds.
The four key aspects we took away from today was: initiative, determination, self-confidence and leadership. I personally thought it was a great day to try something new, improve on existing skills and meet people from other schools.
In case you were wondering, the East Kent Schools Together partnership is a group of seven schools and one university. All the schools and the university take part in a wide variety of events, such as a partnership choir, “The Big Sing”, an Enterprise Event, joint fund-raising for charity and various subject clusters for the teachers. As part of the Student Voice, I go to multiple meetings throughout the academic year to help come up with new ideas and help publicise this scheme.
