We are delighted to welcome Dr Emily Manktelow, cultural and colonial historian from Royal Holloway, University of London who will speak about St Augustine’s College and Canterbury as an imperial city.

In this lecture, Dr Manktelow discusses how the students trained at St Augustine’s College in the period 1848-1914 became missionaries across the world – including India, Canada and China. A significant number of students at the college were born overseas. Through its missionary work, its student body and its activities, St Augustine’s made Canterbury an imperial and global city.
